Expats: e-Channel service is available!

Since August 19th, 2016, e-Channel service has been available to some foreign (non-CHN) biometric passports (e-Passport). You can apply for the e-Channel Service to get through the China border faster.

What's important, your passport will not be stamped when you use the e-Channel service. If you need to stamp your passport, you have to go to the counter.

Applicants must pass a series of requirements, which are:

1. 7 years old or older;

2. have a biometric passport (e-Passport) with a readable pre-installed contactless smart chip.

Note:

You must first register for the service at the e-Channel Register Office.

After registration, you can use e-Channels at any port in China.

How to register for the service?

You can register for the e-Channel service at the e-Channel Register Office (自助采集室)located at any Shenzhen port. There is no charge for this service.

At the register office, you are required to present your valid e-passport and valid residence permit of more than six months, sign a Registered Traveler Service notice, have your fingerprints and photograph taken.

If there are any changes in the registered information, you have to update the changes in person at the Registered Office before continuing to use the e-Channel. There will be no charge for updating.

How to use e-Channels?

1. Open your passport to the photo page. (Don’t forget to take the passport out of its cover.)

2. Hold the photo page down on the reader and try to keep it still.

3. Walk in the e-Channel when the front door opens.

4. Look at the screen in the front.

5. Place the registered thumb or other finger flat in the center of the fingerprint scanner.

6. Walk out of the e-Channel when the second door opens.

Remember you must:

1. Remove sunglasses, hat and scarf. You might need to take your glasses off too. The e-Channels use facial recognition technology to check your identity against the photo taken in the register office.

2. Keep your finger flat and still on the fingerprint scanner. The e-Channels use fingerprint recognition technology to check your identity against the fingerprint taken in the register office.

3. Go through the e-Channel one at a time.
