French musician Remi Gallego will bring his “The Algorithm” project to the Brown Sugar Jar on Sept. 14.

The Algorithm’s style is a combination of electronic music with features of progressive metal and djent. Gallego chose the name “The Algorithm” to highlight the music’s complexity and its electronic nature. For live performances, Gallego uses an Akai APC40, a MIDI controller produced by the company Akai, co-developed with the German company Ableton, connected to a laptop running Ableton Live. In addition, a distorted female voice can be heard on almost all the releases, provided by Florent Latorre, a friend of Gallego.

After the demise of his former band Dying Breath, Gallego decided in 2009 to look for potential members for a band that focused on mathcore, which came as an inspiration from The Dillinger Escape Plan.

In 2011, Gallego used the name “The Algorithm” to release his compilation called “Method_” on which the songs of two previous demos were compiled which were free to download. In April 2013, the first live shows of “The Algorithm” were held in Britain with a new live member, guitarist Max Michel. In 2013, “The Algorithm” was given a Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award as the best underground artist of that year, decided by the votes of Metal Hammer readers.

Gallego’s second album, “Octopus4,” was released in 2014. Along with the release of the album, a crowd-funding campaign was launched for a game which features music composed by Gallego.
