Meaning:

“尬聊”means “awkward conversation” or “chat awkwardly.”The phrase was created by Chinese netizens to describe an awkward conversation between two people, especially between a woman and a man who can’t understand the woman’s interest but is eager to leave a good impression.

Netizens also use the phrase to express that speechless feeling when one can’t find an interesting topic in a conversation but has to keep talking to change an awkward situation.

Example:

A:今天天气不错。

Jīntiān tiānqì búcuò。

Nice weather today.

B: 嗯。

èn。

Yep.

A:之前有段时间挺冷的,都快冻死了。

Zhīqián yǒuduàn shíjiān tǐnglěngde,dōu kuài dòngsǐ le。

A few days ago, it was quite cold. I was freezing to death.

B:你没死啊。

Nǐ méisǐ ā。

But you didn’ t die.
