Meaning:

“人造” means “artificial, man-made,” and “开朗” means “outgoing.” As you may guess, the term coined by Chinese netizens refers to those kinds of people who are born introverted but pretend to be outgoing at parties or in a work environment, hoping their “outgoing character” may help with their careers or bring them new friends.

Example:

A: 真没想到小丽是那么活泼开朗的人。周末公司聚餐,她频频向大家敬酒。

Zhēn méi xiǎngdào xiǎolì shì nàme huópō kāilǎng de rén。Zhōumò gōngsī jùcān, tā pínpín xiàng dàjiā jìngjǐu。

I had never expected Xiao Li to be such an outgoing person. She frequently made toasts at a banquet arranged by our company this weekend.

B: 其实她是人造开朗,那天是因为老板在场,她想好好表现一下。平时在办公室里她很少说话的。

Qíshí tā shì rénzào kāilǎng, nàtiān shì yīnwèi lǎobǎn zàichǎng, tā xiǎng hǎohǎo biǎoxiàn yīxià。Píngshí zài bàngōngshì lǐ tā hěnshǎo shuōhuà de。

She just pretended to be outgoing. Because the boss was present that day and she hoped to impress him. She seldom talks in the office.
