Thirty-two young artists are exhibiting videos and installations at Guan Shanyue Art Museum in the newly opened “On the Road 2017” contemporary art exhibition.
“Contemporary art is currently the most dynamic artistic phenomenon. In 2013, Guan Shanyue Art Museum initiated the ‘On the Road: Young Media Artists in China — Nomination Exhibition and Young Art Critics Forum’ project and then we rolled out a six-year plan. In the past four years, the themes were oil paintings, ink paintings, prints and sculpture, with this year being new media. Next year, we will hold a comprehensive document exhibition to review the academic issues from the past five years,” said Chen Xiangbo, curator of the museum.
The exhibited artworks were created with new media technologies, such as computer graphics, computer animation, virtual art, Internet art, interactive art, video games and 3-D printing. Many projects work with themes like social consciousness, explorations of code and user interface or visual views of databases. Some of the works involve interaction between the observer and the artwork.
