With over 200 representatives of business circles from nine Guangdong cities, and Hong Kong and Macao SARs in attendance, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union was established Monday at Qianhai Dream+ Park in Qianhai.
C. Y. Leung, vice chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, attended the inauguration ceremony and awarded a plaque of appointment to Choi Koon-shum, chairman of the union. Choi is also the deputy director of the National Commission of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports, president of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, and chairman of the board of directors of Sunwah Group.
The union was initiated by the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Qianhai, along with the business circles of nine Guangdong cities, Hong Kong and Macao SARs.
The union has attracted wide attention from businesspeople and has pooled a number of enterprises in the bay area.
The members of the Presidium of Union are from the 11 cities, including Ma Iao Lai, president of the Macao Chamber of Commerce, and Su Zhigang, president of the Guangdong Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as well-known entrepreneurs from the 11 cities. The 11 cities are Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Hong Kong and Macao.
Member enterprises of the union cover a variety of industries ranging from science and technology, high-end manufacturing and high-end services to culture, real estate and finance. Tencent, BGI Group, Royole Corp., Xinyi Glass, Hans Laser, HSBC, China South City and Kerry Properties Ltd. are union members.
Leung said that “enterprises should seek common development to create a better life for people.” He also expects the union to expand to include more member enterprises.
Choi said: “The size of the economy of the bay area could become the largest in the world within 10 years. And the area boasts a unique complete industrial chain.”
Wang Jian, president of BGI Group and executive deputy chairman of the union, said that apart from the manufacturing industry, production capacity and capital, the bay area should also come up with new ideas to develop life and ecological industries, thus inviting new policies, thoughts and culture. “We should put people first and support the growth of the emerging medical and health industries. Only by doing this can we lead the world’s development instead of following the steps of developed countries.”
The union will build a number of platforms for communication between governments and business circles. New channel for exchanges and cooperation between enterprises will also be built to encourage mutual assistance. The union will also encourage cooperation for banks and enterprises and support youth entrepreneurship and public welfare.
