PHASE III of Nanping Expressway and the Pingyan Passage will open to traffic before the end of the year, cutting the trip between Pingshan and the city’s CBD to within one hour, according to local newspapers yesterday.

At present, only 400 meters long of tunnels of the 22km expressway remain unfinished.

The expressway spans Longgang and Pingshan districts by connecting with Hengping Flyover of the Shuiguan Expressway in the west and with Julong Road in the east.

At present, 90 percent of the bridge projects and two of the three tunnels have been completed, sources from the Shenzhen transport commission said.

In another development, work on Maluanshan Tunnel, a key project of Pingyan Passage that links Pingshan and Yantian districts, is going smoothly. Only 1.8 km of the 7.9 km tunnel remains to be finished.

The Pingyan Passage starts from the intersection of Jinlong Boulevard and Pingshan Boulevard and ends at Yangang East Flyover in the south of Yantian District. The 11.25 km fast urban road includes two large interchanges, Maluanshan Tunnel and 17 bridges.

The city invested 1.87 billion yuan (US$297.98 million) in the project, accounting for 41 percent of its total budgetary investment.
