Chinese pianist Yin Chengzong will present a night of Western classical music and Peking opera piano performance.




The program of the first half of the concert will be Schubert’s “Allegretto in C Minor, D. 915” and “Four Impromptus, D. 935.” The second half will be tunes from Peking opera “The Legend of the Red Lantern,” which will also be sung by Peking opera performers. Yin created the piano version in the 1960s.


Born in 1941 in Xiamen, Fujian Province, Yin is best known to the West through the “Yellow River Piano Concerto” he arranged based on Xian Xinghai’s “Yellow River Cantata.”


In 1959, Yin won an award at the World Youth Peace and Friendship Festival in Austria, and in 1960, he studied at the Leningrad Conservatory in the former Soviet Union. In 1962, he and U.S. pianist Susan Starr were the second-prize winners of the International Tchaikovsky Competition. In 1965, Yin joined the Central Symphony Orchestra of China as a soloist.
