Paolo Nani Theater from Denmark will present children’s play “Jekyll on Ice” at Huaxia Art Center.

In Paolo Nani’s playful performance, Jekyll is a sensitive and introverted ice cream vendor, who in his attempts to break the ice and escape his terrible shyness finds himself on very thin ice. In his efforts to invent the world’s most delicious ice cream, an accident happens. The ingredients are wrongly mixed, and out of the blue appears his daredevil opposite, Hyde. With his new extroverted personality, everything ought to be good, but instead, Jekyll has opened Pandora’s box and unleashed a temperamental, self-absorbed monster. Hyde is an extroverted entertainer, only concerned about himself and his quest for attention. Though a fascinating entertainer, he lacks the artistry and the skills of the scientist and the poet, and all his attempts to impress with his grandiose inventions are bound to fail — with huge comical effect as the consequence.

“Jekyll on Ice” is a visual comedy that portrays, with warmth and humor, a man’s attempt to create balance between his seeking for attention and his wish to be true to himself and be loved for whom he is. With a mix of visual poetry, slapstick, huge balloons and a charming do-it-yourself ice cream cart, Nani makes evident his many years’ experience from the universe of the clown and physical comedy, displaying a playful interactive performance that reaches audiences of all ages.

“Jekyll on Ice” was created by Nani based in his hit show “Jekyll & Hyde” in 2009, which was coproduced with Figurteateret in Nordland (Norway) and since its premiere has toured all over Europe.
