A daily average 1,260 new businesses were registered in Shenzhen from January to September this year, according to the latest figures released by the city’s business registration bureau, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

A total of 373,809 new businesses were registered in Shenzhen over the past 10 months, accounting for a quarter of the total in Guangdong Province. A total of 13,034 new foreign-funded companies were registered in Shenzhen in the past 10 months, an increase of 126 percent year on year.

The total number of businesses in Shenzhen has reached 3.05 million, topping all major metropolises in China.

According to the bureau, new businesses tend to settle in three districts, namely Bao’an, Nanshan and Longgang districts. For the past 10 months, Nanshan District has seen the largest number of new businesses.

Bao’an District is also one of the city’s major districts for industry and manufacturing. Currently, there are 3,030 national-level high-tech companies registered in the district, making Bao’an the district with the largest number of national-level high-tech enterprises in Guangdong Province.

The owner of a smart manufacturing enterprise who registered his company in Bao’an District said that he is confident in his company’s development thanks to Shenzhen’s favorable business environment and complete industrial chains.

Each district has distinct features in terms of the types of new businesses that settle there. Nanshan and Futian districts have more high-tech companies engaged in data transmission, software and IT. More companies in the service industry have registered in Luohu District and Dapeng New Area, while Yantian District attracts more logistics companies. The other districts tend to accommodate traditional manufacturing companies.

“The reform of business systems has been energizing Shenzhen’s social and economic development,” said an official with the business registration bureau.

About 93 percent of the new businesses registered between January and September are in the tertiary industry. Emerging industries, like biology, Internet of Things, new energy, new materials and environmental protection, have maintained steady growth.
