Forty students from 13 schools in major cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area gathered at the Shenzhen Foreign Languages School (Longhua) high school campus Thursday and reached consensus on topics related to education cooperation and the development of mangrove forests.

A joint declaration was also released at the end of the 2018 Shenzhen International Middle School Students’ Forum, which was sponsored by the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau and hosted by Shenzhen Foreign Languages School.

Luo Laijin, head of Shenzhen Foreign Languages School, made a welcoming speech at the start of the forum.

The Central Government initiated the plans for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area in 2017, with the aim of building it into a first-rate bay area and an important engine for China’s, and even the world’s, economic growth, Luo said. This glorious mission calls for the responsibility and duty of the post-2000 generation, he said.

Wang Xinyi, a student representative from Shenzhen Foreign Languages School, appealed to forum attendees to “re-examine Shenzhen from the perspective of nature,” and “explore the past and the future of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.”

Wang has long been focused on the conservation of wetlands and is committed to the promotion of relevant undertakings.

As Shenzhen continues its rapid development, it will set up more platforms for international student exchanges, said Zhao Li, vice head of the city’s education bureau. The international middle school students’ forum was a nice start, Zhao said.

There are now 10 international schools in Shenzhen with more than 5,000 Chinese and foreign students, according to Zhao.

Agreements were reached on nine programs related to education cooperation and on eight programs related to the joint development of mangrove forests during Thursday’s forum.

The event organizer has arranged for attendees to appreciate Shenzhen’s light show and visit telecom giant Huawei Technologies.
