A new plan for examinations that assess the quality of students in terms of academics, health, art, social practices and morals will be implemented in the city’s 2021 high-school entrance examinations, local media reported.

The new rule will be applied to students who have entered junior high school since September this year.

According to the plan, the city will form an assessment mechanism based on the academic results and comprehensive quality of junior high school students for examinations and high school admissions.

Under the new plan, students will sit for academic proficiency tests after they complete each subject. The content of the tests will focus on analytic and problem-solving abilities.

An electronic file system will be used to evaluate the performance of each student after each term and give a comprehensive three-year evaluation upon their graduation.

For the high school admissions exam, students will study six subjects, namely Chinese, math, English, sports, a combination of physics and chemistry, history and morality.

The number of students admitted by independent admissions examinations will account for only 10 percent of the total number of students enrolled citywide.
