The major project of the Shenzhen section of the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway was officially initiated at a ceremony in Guangming District last week, the city’s transport commission said Tuesday.

The 436.37-km rail line is expected to be put into operation in 2021 and cut the trip between Shenzhen and Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province to two hours. It is part of a longer proposed high-speed rail link between Shenzhen and Nanchang. The trip to Nanchang from Shenzhen will be cut to four hours. The railway will also connect to the Xiamen-Shenzhen railway to allow access to coastal Fujian cities.

The Ganzhou-Shenzhen railway covers Ganzhou, Heyuan, Huizhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen. It is designed to run at 350 kilometers per hour with a capacity of 50 million people a year.

The Shenzhen section runs 32 kilometers and work started in March this year to renovate the train depot at Shenzhen North Railway Station. This August, work on the Tangxi-Shenzhen section of the rail was initiated.

The Shenzhen section will be divided into 10 partitions, of which a tunnel project will make up 92 percent. According to the schedule, the rail-laying project will be completed by December 2020 and the entire line will be put into use by September 2021.

In another development, the tunnel project for Shenzhen Science Museum Station on Line 6 has been completed, laying a solid foundation for the completion of the section extending to Shenzhen North Station.

The construction of the 49.3-km Metro Line 6, from Shenzhen Science Museum to Songgang Station, has been divided into two phases. The second phase, from Shenzhen North Station to Shenzhen Science Museum Station, will be put into operation in May 2020. It has five exchange stations. Passengers can transfer to Line 1 at Science Museum Station, Line 3 at Tongxinling Station, Line 7 at Bagualing Station, Line 9 at Yinhu Station and Lines 4 and 5 at Shenzhen North Station.
