Shenzhen has been awarded for taking the lead in the construction of smart cities with the top overall score out of 100 Chinese cities, according to results that were released at the 2018 Smart China Annual Conference on Wednesday, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The assessment selected 100 sample cities, including cities that have been rated as national smart cities and those that have attained remarkable achievements in smart city construction and have piloted IT projects for the people.

On the basis of the previous sessions, this year’s evaluation indicators were slightly adjusted. The key indicators are smart infrastructure, smart governance, smart livelihood, digital economy and innovation environment.

The nine cities rounding out the top 10 are Hangzhou, Wuxi, Ningbo, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Beijing, Chengdu and Foshan.

The annual conference also released a list of cities that stand out for their business environment, on which Shenzhen and Guangzhou tied for third place.

In evaluating business environment, influence, support, execution, coordination and innovation are the indicators. Thirty-one provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions each chose four representatives from prefecture-level cities, districts, counties and State-level free trade zones for the assessment. A total of 135 prefecture-level cities were evaluated.

Shenzhen’s Nanshan, Futian and Bao’an districts are ranked among the top 10 districts or counties.

Meanwhile, Nanshan District was awarded for having the top business environment and Futian was recognized for its innovations in optimizing its business environment.

The annual conference, co-sponsored by the Center for Informatization Studies and Beijing Govmade Information Consulting Co. Ltd., has been held for 13 consecutive years.
