Competition gathers youth from GD, HK, Macao

Themed “What’s Next?” the 2018 “CMG Cup” Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship final was held at Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub on Friday night, presenting 29 projects from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in the fields of Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing and biomedicine.
The media-free air projecting technique from Shenzhen Xindong Electronics Technology Co. fetched the gold prize in the enterprise category, while the mobile energy storage device from team Ecoflow won gold in the team category.
“We have stuck to what we have always wanted to do, to create a brand-new clean energy storage device to replace the traditional electricity generator. This mission has never changed since the founding of our team and we have been working for it every day,” said Wang Lei, representative of Ecoflow.
Wang Zizhong, vice director of the Hong Kong Affairs Office of Qianhai Authority, said that the competition aimed to support the innovation and entrepreneurship of youth in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, creating a Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao innovation circle which combines each other’s advantages to develop in a coordinated way, realize win-win results and engage youth from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in the development of the Qianhai & Shekou Pilot FTA.
The event was jointly held by Qianhai Authority, China Merchants Charitable Foundation, the youth affairs department of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in the Hong Kong SAR and the youth affairs department of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in the Macao SAR, among the others.
As one of Qianhai’s important measures to create a working platform for young people from Hong Kong and Macao, this year marks the third session of the Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship competition. Since it was launched in May, it had attracted over 1,100 projects.
The number of participants exceeded 2,000. Three competition areas in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao were set up. The total prize money reached nearly 2 million yuan (US$291,000).
Apart from the final, the competition for the Guangdong area also offered 12 prizes. The Pear Fog, a fog computing project by the company Pear Ltd., which fetched the gold prize in the enterprise category, and the unmanned camera Obsbot from team Obsbot won gold in the team category.
Newly added cooperation events included HKUST Shenzhen Region One Million Dollar International Entrepreneurship Competition, Tsinghua University alumni innovation and creation entrepreneurship competition, Cyberport Guangdong-Hong Kong Young Entrepreneur Program and Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology Entrepreneur Competition.
