Shenzhen traffic police will adopt dynamic road control measures for Sunday’s Shenzhen International Marathon, which has attracted 30,000 runners for the half-length and full-length races.

For the first time, drones will be used to patrol and monitor the marathon event and provide accurate traffic information to the control center.

This year’s event will be held on the section of Shennan Boulevard between Bao’an Road South and Shahe West Road, and the section of Shahe West Road between Shahe Flyover of Shennan Boulevard and Wanghai Road.

Drivers will be banned from turning onto the westward section of Shennan Boulevard between Jintian Flyover and Yitian Flyover starting at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Starting at 5 a.m., vehicles will be forbidden from entering the westward section of Shennan Boulevard between Huanggang Flyover and Jintian Flyover and the main area of the event near Shenzhen Civic Center.

Starting at 7:55 a.m., five minutes before the event commences, police will begin gradually imposing the controls, section by section, according to the progress of the 42-kilometer race from the Shenzhen Civic Center square, along Shennan Boulevard, to Shahe West Road and Wanghai Road, and then back on Shennan Boulevard, Shennan Road Central and Shennan Road East.

Regular public transport services and traffic will resume after the traffic controls are lifted.

The race ends in Futian District in the Civic Center square at 2 p.m.

Residents with emergencies along the marathon route can call 110 or 8333-3333 for help from police.

During the race, Shenzhen Metro will put more trains on standby on Lines 1 and 2. Between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. the E and F entrances of Civic Center Station and No. 15 Entrance of Futian Station will be closed. Services will gradually resume after the race, the operator said.

A total of 137 bus routes on Shennan Boulevard, Shennan Road Central and Shahe West Road will be adjusted Sunday to make way for the marathon. Drivers on Sunday are advised to choose Beihuan Boulevard, Sungang Road, Binhai Boulevard or Nanping Expressway.

Between Thursday and Saturday, runners can get their bibs at booths set up in the south square of Shenzhen Civic Center.
