Equipped with nursing desks, hand sanitizer, tissues, smart trash cans and fire extinguishers, eight intelligent nursing rooms were set up in the city and put into use in Yantian District Maternity and Child Health-care Hospital, Shenzhen Adolescent Activity Center and Shenzhen Administrative Service Hall, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

This is the first time that such nursing rooms have been opened in municipal public spaces.

The nursing room in Yantian District Maternity and Child Health-care Hospital covers around1 square meter. In addition to the aforementioned equipment, there is an automatic dispatching machine next to the room, where parents can easily access wet wipes, diapers, anti-overflow breast pads and lotions.

Some intelligent nursing rooms also include equipment such as a milk heater, humidifier and air purifier. Additionally, users can control the environment within the facilities via the sound control system in the room.

Operated by e-commerce platform Tmall, the eight nursing rooms comprise the first batch of smart nursing rooms to be put into use in Shenzhen.

Next year, Yantian will build24 smart nursing rooms in the district to provide more mothers with humane public facilities, according to a staffer with the district’s women’s federation.

As of Dec.1, Tmall had built200 smart nursing rooms across the country.

The construction of nursing rooms has become a priority for Shenzhen as it aims to become a child-friendly city. According to its13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), Shenzhen will build no less than200 nursing rooms each year. By2020, more than800 nursing rooms will have been built in the city’s public spaces.
