SZers spend ¥2.3b on movies

Shenzhen people spent 2.26 billion yuan (US$329.73 million) on movies in 2018, an increase of 5.79 percent over the previous year, ranking third nationwide in expenditure, following Shanghai and Beijing, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.

Statistics released by https://www.maoyan.com show 42 movie houses opened to the public in 2018, bringing the total number in the city to 277. In 2018, 69 movie houses raked in more than 10 million yuan.

The opening of new movie theaters also coincided with an increase in the number of movie-goers. In 2018, movie houses served 59.26 million visitors.
