Automatic payment through WeChat has been made available for parking at five checkpoints in Shenzhen, namely Shenzhen Bay, Futian, Luohu, Huanggang and Wenjindu checkpoints, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily on Friday.

Drivers no longer need to stop their cars, or scan a QR code, at the exit to pay the parking fee. Payment can be automatically made through WeChat. The whole process can take as few as two seconds, the report said.

According to staff at Shenzhen checkpoint center, drivers should first scan a QR code posted at the five checkpoints, bind their WeChat account with the license plates of their vehicles and allow payments to be made without a PIN in order to use the service.

An on-site test by the Daily reporter showed that the automatic payment system has reduced the time for exiting the parking lot from 20 seconds to around two seconds, a 90-percent increase in efficiency.

A total of 7.77 million cars passed through seven land checkpoints managed by the Shenzhen checkpoint center in the first half of 2018, up 1 percent year on year with 42,900 vehicles on a daily basis, according to the official data.

This situation meant traffic efficiency at parking lots urgently needed to be addressed, the report said. As a result, WeChat payment joined hands with the Shenzhen checkpoint center to unveil this service.
