Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has been listed among the top 10 universities on the Chinese mainland and as the 59th in the Asia Pacific area, according to a listing released recently by Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The other local university, Shenzhen University, is ranked 29th among mainland universities and fourth among Guangdong universities following Guangzhou-based Sun Yat-sen University, SUSTech and South China University of Technology in Guangzhou.
The ranking surveyed a total of 300 universities in 13 countries and regions in East Asia, South East Asia and Oceania. A total of 72 Chinese mainland universities made it onto this year’s list.
The Asia and Pacific University Ranking evaluated universities across teaching (30 percent), research (30 percent), international outlook (7.5 percent), industrial revenue (7.5 percent) and others.
Japan is ranked first with 103 universities on the list, followed by China (72), Australia (35), South Korea (29) and Thailand (14), according to the ranking.
The Beijing-based Tsinghua University is ranked first among Asian universities, and Peking University is ranked sixth. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong are among the top 10 Asian universities, according to the list.
