An intensive transport network, comprising Metro lines, intercity rails and roads, to connect Qianhai with the rest of the city as well as other Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area cities, such as Guangzhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Hong Kong, will be built.
At a news briefing Monday on implementing the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Tian Fu, director of the Qianhai & Shekou free trade area management committee, and Du Peng, head of Qianhai Authority, said the area plans to have 18 Metro and rail lines as well as Asia’s largest comprehensive underground transport hub, which will take commuters to the rest of Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Zhuhai within one hour.
Three intercity rails will link to Hong Kong, including one connecting Shenzhen International Airport with Hong Kong International Airport, and the extension of Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail linking Qianhai and Hung Shui Kiu in northern Hong Kong, where the Hong Kong government plans an express rail to connect with its urban areas, such as Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. The third line, which will start at Xili High-speed Railway Station, will make a stop in Qianhai before terminating at East Lantau Metropolis, a large-scale land reclamation proposed by the Hong Kong government off the coast of Lantau.
The other three intercity rails will reach Guangzhou, Dongguan, Huizhou and Zhuhai.
Located at the mouth of the Pearl River, Qianhai is surrounded by Nansha of Guangzhou to the north, Zhuhai and Macao to the west, and Hong Kong to the south.
Besides rail projects, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor is under construction and Shenzhen-Zhuhai Corridor, which allows the use of vehicles and trains, is also being planned. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway is currently in use.
A checkpoint and a helicopter service station covering Pearl River Delta cities will be set up in Qianhai.
Qianhai will also have seven Metro lines.
Qianhai has begun to implement a three-year action plan between 2018 and 2020 to build itself into a new city center by investing 140 billion yuan (US$21 billion) in 219 projects.
Some public facilities, including Qianhai Convention and Exhibition Center, Shenzhen Hall of the National Museum of China, International Finance Exchange Center, and international schools and hospitals will also be built in the area.
By the end of 2018, the number of registered enterprises in Qianhai had reached 10,000 and registered capital had reached 1 trillion yuan.
