Guang'an City in Sichuan Province, the hometown of China’s late leader Deng Xiaoping, introduced its brand-name agricultural products in Shenzhen at a ceremony launched at Wuzhou Guest House on Thursday.

The agricultural products include honey pears produced in Huaying City, a county-level city, navel oranges from Linshui County and grapefruits from Longan County.

More than 200 business representatives, mainly from Pearl River Delta cities, attended the business promotion meeting.

The local specialty agricultural products have a long history and have become competitive products for Guang’an City. The city produces 225,000 tons of grapefruits, 105,000 tons of navel oranges and 112,000 tons of honey pears a year.

“They have been recognized as brand names by the agricultural ministry and provincial agricultural department, but are not sold in Pearl River Delta cities,” said Li Jianqin, Guang’an’s Party chief. Li added that this was the reason for organizing such a promotion in Shenzhen.

Besides introducing agricultural products, Guang’an also hopes that the two-day event will attract investment to Guang’an (Shenzhen) Industrial Park, which was established in September 2016, through cooperation between the Shenzhen and Guang’an governments.

The industrial park, which covers 28 square kilometers, is the center for high-end industries in Guang’an. It focuses on high-end equipment manufacturing, intelligent electronic information, new materials, logistics and tourism.

Shenzhen-based BYD Automobile Co. Ltd. has invested 2 billion yuan (US$299 million) to set up its manufacturing base for Southwestern China in the industrial park.
