6 dead, 5 missing after rainstorms

Six people died and five are missing after sudden downpours lashed Shenzhen City at around 9:40 p.m. last night, according to government sources this morning.   

Four workers who were cleaning up river culverts in the Xiangmi Lake section of Fengtang River in Futian District were flushed away by the floods. Two of them was dead and two were missing, according to the official Weibo account of Futian District Government.

Twelve workers in two separate dredging projects in Luohu District were flushed away during the downpours. Four of them were rescued, four dead and another four were missing, according to the official Weibo account of the Publicity Department of Luohu District Committee of the CPC.

Searches are now continuing for the missing.

Shenzhen will have heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds today and tomorrow, according to Shenzhen Observatory. 

In the rainy season, residents are advised to stay tuned to the weather forecast and take precautions.
