Shenzhen Center for Public Art, a comprehensive public organization engaging in public art, urban design and urban development, is now collecting new original public artworks for decorating some of the Shenzhen Metro stations.

With the theme "Conversation," the Shenzhen Metro Art Museum project will continue its first edition in 2016 to create better atmosphere for passengers and enhance Shenzhen Metro's function as both a transportation hub and an urban culture space.

According to Shenzhen Center for Public Art, the new public artworks will be installed in Line 5's Guiwan, Qianwan, Qianwan Park, Mawan, Railway Park, Liwan and Chiwan stations and Line 9's Menghai, Yihai, Lilin, Nanyou West, Nanyou, Nanshan Book City, Shenzhen University South, Yuehaimen and Hi-tech Park South stations.

The stations will mainly be built in southern Nanshan's port area and Qianhai area, so "Conversation" here means a communication platform between Shenzhen and the world. The public artworks in the Metro stations will present Shenzhen's "City of Design" image and provide aesthetic experiences for passengers.

The artworks can be sculptures, reliefs, frescos, installations or new media, and should meet the Metro's safety standards and be able to be on display for a long time.

Artists should submit their artwork proposal(s) in a digital format (two A3-sized pages, in PDF or PPT), including a computer-generated image of the artwork (not smaller than 300 dpi), captions, materials and crafting description, budget (not more than 450,000 yuan), artists' CV, a portfolio of past works and contact information. Submissions in either English or Chinese are accepted.

The Shenzhen Center for Public Art will then invite art and design organizations and professionals to review the submitted works from May 6 to 15. Seventeen projects will be selected for construction from June 30 to Sept. 30 and each winning artist will be rewarded 80,000 yuan (US$11,898) including tax and project revision and supervision fees.

The submitted works should not be previous submissions to other activities.
