The VR aquarium, football pitch and basketball court within Xiwan Mangrove Park in Xixiang Subdistrict, Bao’an District, are now free to the public, the Bao’an Daily reported Monday.

The exhibition hall of the virtual reality (VR) aquarium covers an area of 1,700 square meters. The aquarium adopts elements of Lingnan architecture in its design style and facade, and is aimed at popularizing science and marine life knowledge.

Visitors can also get to know the history of coastal Xiwan at the aquarium. In order to improve visitors’ experience, the aquarium has also set up many interactive games. For instance, augmented reality (AR) technology has been used to let tourists become marine guards and collect marine garbage.

The aquarium also provides a six-minute VR submarine exploration for visitors, with the submarine’s design drawing inspirations from the Chinese manned submersible Jiaolong.

The aquarium is open every Wednesday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The football pitch in the park is open from 8 a.m. to noon, and from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Residents should make reservations. The basketball court is open all day with no appointment required.
