Winners of expat photo contest revealed

The winners of the “Expats Eye Shenzhen” photo contest, hosted by the Information Office of Shenzhen Municipal Government and organized by EYESHENZHEN.com and the Shenzhen Daily, were revealed Thursday.

The first prize was given to “A Resting Bird” by Jesus Salazar from Venezuela, who will receive a cash award of 8,000 yuan (US$1,168). “Keep Up Tradition” by Katsuhiro Kobayashi from Japan, “Talent Park” by James Dumbrill from the United Kingdom and “Colorful Shuiwei” by Salazar won the second prizes, which each will come with a 5,000-yuan cash award.

There are five third-prize winners, each taking home 2,000 yuan. They are: “Weightless” by Cody Hoffmann from Canada, “Always Watching” by Kobayashi, “Distant Dream” by Chiranjib Chakraborty from India, “Funky” by Martin Haffner from Germany and “Industrialization” by Millan P. Rible from the Philippines. Twenty merit-award winners each will receive 500 yuan.

The contest’s organizing committee received around 1,000 photos from expats between February and March. All of the photos were taken in Shenzhen or were related to Shenzhen, including images of the city’s international community, natural landscapes and the historic changes of Shenzhen.

The photographers come from 20 countries, including Russia and the United Kingdom.

An awards ceremony will be held at the end of this month.
