Liantang Checkpoint in Luohu District has passed a review and fire tests recently and will be put into service in September as scheduled.

The checkpoint will be put into use after its Hong Kong counterpart, Heung Yuen Wai Control Point, is completed, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.

The operation of the new border checkpoint will further promote the connectivity of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the report said.

One of the key cooperation links between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, Liantang Checkpoint is located at the southwest corner of Liantang Subdistrict, facing Luosha Road to the north and the Shenzhen River to the south.

The checkpoint occupies an area of 17.4 hectares and consists of four parts, namely the building for traveler inspection, the inspection spot for trucks, a cross-border bridge and the administration offices.

The checkpoint has a floor space of 149,000 square meters. There are a total of 23 inspection lanes for people including nine e-lanes, two car lanes, one bus and coach lane, and six truck lanes. The Liantang Checkpoint will be able to handle 30,000 people, 2,000 cars, 850 buses and coaches, and 15,000 trucks a day, according to the report.

After completion, Heung Yuen Wai Control Point will also be the first checkpoint in Hong Kong to allow motorists to park their cars with Hong Kong license plates at a restricted area near the control point.

At present, many major projects on the Shenzhen side have been accomplished, except for a handful of landscaping and follow-up modification projects, while the construction of the roads connecting Heung Yuen Wai Control Point in Hong Kong has been finished and its whole project is set to be finalized soon, the report said.
