A dog carnival was held yesterday afternoon at the Shenzhen Book City CBD Store in Futian District to mark “Love Your Pet Dog Day,” attracting a bunch of dog lovers and those interested in dog adoption.

The event was organized by the city as an opportunity to promote dog adoption.

In October last year, the Shenzhen Municipal Urban Administration and Law Enforcement Bureau moved to collect stray dogs across the city. But the question of how to handle these lovely lives raised concerns.

As a result, the bureau decided to hold an event to promote dog adoption along with a variety of relevant activities such as a roundtable session discussing civilized dog-keeping, lectures on topics related to dog-keeping, a dog fashion show and a symphony performance.

At yesterday’s event, a three-year TNA (trap, neuter and adoption) plan was also launched to promote a more meticulous management of stray dogs in the city.

The plan will end in 2021. It is hoped that the plan will decrease the number of stray dogs in the city by preventing new litters and helping existing dogs find homes.

In order to give residents a clear idea about how to adopt a dog, the bureau gave out a tailor-made brochure on the relevant procedures to participants.

On top of this, the city called for a convention on civilized dog-keeping.

About 100 residents signed the convention on-site. Professional veterinarians were also invited to offer free rabies vaccine for dogs.

Meanwhile, Love Your Pet Dog Day activities were also held yesterday simultaneously at a Bao’an District subvenue at Yifang Center.
