A new public restroom, including a nursery room, an accessible toilet and a unisex toilet, on the crest of Lianhua Hill opened for a trial operation Saturday, after the original one was pulled down for renovation last August.

Covering 950 square meters, the new restroom increases the number of toilets to 41, comprising 16 for men and 25 for women. The additions of a nursery room, an accessible toilet and a unisex toilet provide conveniences for parents with young children, the disabled and the elderly who are unable to move freely.

Some of the toilets include care facilities for the elderly and foldable chairs for babies, while a bottle warmer, a changing station and a purified water machine are available in the baby care room. In the rest area beside the restroom, there are benches, vending machines, mobile phone charging sockets, and garbage classification and collection points.

A rainwater recycling system has been installed to improve the efficiency of water usage.

The original restroom, which had been in use for 15 years, failed to meet the current demand due to the increasing number of visitors to Lianhua Hill Park in recent years.

The city decided to build a new one and the project became a pilot program of the “toilet revolution” campaign, which was launched in 2017 to improve the quality of the city’s public toilets.

The new toilets for men and women are in use, but the unisex, disabled and baby care rooms are still under construction.
