Shenzhen-Based Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and King’s College London will jointly establish a collaborative medical school to enhance education cooperation in medical and health sciences, and contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, SUSTech said in a release on its official website yesterday.
According to the agreement signed in London on Monday, SUSTech will promote the education, medical health and life health development of Shenzhen by introducing a leading talent team focused on discipline integration and innovation, and cultivating first-class medical talents.
The two sides will work on teaching plans that meet both international standards and Chinese contexts. Students that complete the courses will receive degrees from both universities.
“The collaboration will link King’s College London, which has 800 years of history in medical education, with the young and fast-growing SUSTech,” said Professor Edward Byrne, president of King’s College London.
“This is an unprecedented cooperation in King’s College history. We will invest our best academic resources and world-leading expertise in health to lay the foundation of the collaborative medical school, which will earn remarkable prestige in the world,” said Byrne.
Chen Shiyi, president of SUSTech, said the agreement is a milestone in the history of SUSTech’s medical school and the establishment of the collaborative medical school is a leap forward for the development of the university’s medical school. The collaboration with King’s College will not only bring the best medical education and research to Shenzhen, but also be helpful for the medical service development in the Greater Bay Area.
