Under the theme of “Remain true to our original aspirations and keep our mission firmly in mind,” a gala celebrating the 98th birthday of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held at Enterprise Dream Park in Shenzhen Qianhai Cooperation Zone (Qianhai) June 26.
The gala, jointly staged by Shenzhen Grand Theatre Philharmonic Orchestra and a selection of renowned artists, presented poetry, singing, symphonies and other such performances.
“The purpose of the gala is to cast light of the theme ‘Remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind' upon the beholders in an entertaining way, and leading people to reminisce about their original intentions in real life,” said Zhou Fangyu, executive director of the performance. “This gala has a variety of forms, ranging from classical pieces, such as ‘Ode to Motherland’ and ‘Aspirations,’ to popular works like ‘Song of Qianhai.’ All of the selected works are in line with the 98th anniversary of the establishment of CPC.”
An original song created by local artists, “Song of Qianhai,” was premiered at the gala. Zhao Jiufeng, performer of the song and an associate professor with the Jinzhong Music Academy of Shenzhen University, told the Shenzhen Daily about his emotions towards the song. “Embedded in the lyrics are the modern and fast-changing scenes in Qianhai. I hope this song can show the momentum of Shenzhen and rapid development of Qianhai to the world.”
The fast-developing pace of Qianhai has also surprised the artists. “I’ve been in Shenzhen for more than 20 years and Qianhai was a relatively laid-back area then. Today I drove on the refurbished roads and was stunned by the towers popping into sight along the way. The changes that have taken place here are really massive,” said tenor Xiong Jiayuan, a national first-class performance who staged the piece “Aspirations” at the gala.
Co-hosted by the Qianhai Working Committee of CPC and the Life and Entertainment Channel of Shenzhen Media Group, the gala was a sideline event of Qianhai Red Art and Culture Festival.
