WITH the help of Edinburgh-Shenzhen Creative Exchange (ESCE), a delegation from National University of Singapore (NUS) led by Professor Wong Poh Kam recently visited F518 Idea Land, a creative industrial park in Bao’an District, the Bao’an Daily reported.

Aside from NUS, other international universities, such as Coventry University and Edinburgh Napier University, also contacted ESCE in hopes of getting more of internship opportunities for their students at the enterprises based in the park.

NUS has developed an overseas program with15 innovative cities around the world. The program has been conducted globally for more than a decade to help their students get international internships.

Shenzhen is a promising city suitable for innovative and entrepreneurial talents. Industrial design is developing rapidly in Shenzhen. Therefore, NUS hopes to cooperate with local enterprises to bring more NUS students to Shenzhen.

Daniel Casey and Stefano Cipriani, students from Edinburgh Napier University, are currently doing internships at Matrix Industrial Product Design Company, a famous Shenzhen industrial design company at F518 Idea Land. They think that F518 Idea Land has a perfect industrial ecology and design environment.

As a student majoring in product design, Casey said that he thought Shenzhen was a crowded city before arriving here. In fact, the transportation in Shenzhen is very convenient.

Metros, buses and other means of transport almost cover the entire city. What’s even better is that there are quite a lot of industrial design companies in Shenzhen, which can provide plenty of internship opportunities for students in industrial-design-related majors, said Casey.

Cipriani is impressed by Shenzhen’s modernity.“The popularization of WeChat payment and Alipay has led Shenzhen to become a cashless city. Shenzhen’s supply chain is also complete for industrial design. During the internship, we can participate in every process from design to production,” said Cipriani.

The manager of Matrix Industrial Product Design Company said that these students from Edinburgh Napier University are hard-working. After they arrived at the company, the English level of the company’s employees has improved. At the same time, these international students bring new ideas to design.
