Meaning:

“路人” means “passers-by,” and “缘” literally means “destiny by which people are brought together.” Used by Chinese fans of idols, this term is often used to describe celebrities who are generally liked, even by people who are not their fans. For example, Chinese actress Liu Yifei is that kind of person. Even when something unfavorable happens, people would rather believe that she’s innocent and rumors about her are untrue.

Example:

A: 蔡徐坤为什么败光了路人缘?

Càixúkūn wéishénme bài guāng le lùrényuán?

Why isn’t Cai Xukun generally liked?

B: 因为他的粉丝到处得罪人,而他自己只是一个偶像明星而已。

Yīnwèi tā de fěnsī dàochù dézuì rén,ér tā zìjǐ zhīshì yīge ǒuxiàng míngxīng éryǐ。

Because his fans have pissed off a lot of people. And Cai himself is just a young idol.
