A one-way trip from Shenzhen to the center of Huizhou will take around 20 minutes after the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway is opened for operation, according to the Nanfang Daily.

The Ganzhou-Shenzhen railway is expected to be put into use in 2021. Additionally, another three projects, namely the Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway, Shenzhen-Daya Bay Intercity Railway and Shenzhen-Shenshan High-speed Railway, have been included in the planning.

Along with the Xiamen-Shenzhen High-speed Railway, which has been in service, there will be at least five rail links connecting Shenzhen and Huizhou in the future, said the report.

Guangdong, Shenzhen and Huizhou have issued papers promoting the development of the Shenzhen-Dongguan-Huizhou area.

Huiyang District in Huizhou has joined hands with Pingshan to develop key industries, such as new energy vehicles and biomedicine. It has also reached an agreement with Longgang District to jointly build the Longgang-Huiyang industrial park.

Zhang Keke, chairman with Shenzhen Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Association, observed that there is a foundation for the cooperation between Shenzhen and Huizhou.

“After the links are established, Shenzhen, Huizhou and Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone will become an important integrated platform,” said Zhang.

A project by Biel Crystal, one of the largest glass manufacturers in the world, has set up its fourth production base in Huiyang with a total investment of 2 billion yuan (US$0.29 billion).

The project is currently in a pilot production phase. The glass screens produced here will be offered to Apple Inc.

More and more enterprises are settling their research centers in Shenzhen and production bases in Huizhou, according to the report.
