Young Taiwanese violinist Tseng Yu-chien (Benny) will play Tartini’s“Devil’s Trill,” Schumann’s“Sonata No.1 in A Minor, Op.105,” Ernst’s“Variations on‘The Last Rose of Summer’” and Franck’s“Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major, FWV8.”


Born in 1994, Tseng was the fifth laureate in the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in 2012. At the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition held in 2015, Tseng won the second prize in the violin contest, for which no first prize was awarded.


Praised for his“grace, poise and blistering virtuosity,” Tseng is rapidly building an international reputation as an emerging young soloist of enormous promise. He has studied at the Curtis Institute of Music under professors Ida Kavafian and Aaron Rosand. Deutsche Grammophon signed him in 2016 and released his debut album“Reverie” in 2017. His second album recorded with Mikhail Pletnev and the Russian National Orchestra, featuring Tchaikovsky’s“Violin Concerto in D Major” and other celebrated works by the composer, was released in 2018.


Tseng has also appeared as a soloist with the London Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among many others. He has worked with conductors such as Valery Gergiev and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
