Traffic congestion on Yueliangwan Boulevard is expected to be greatly relieved as the road’s renovation project accelerates, sources from the city’s rail construction office said, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The renovation project starts at Mawan Boulevard in the south and connects with Beihuan Boulevard in the north.

It aims to reconstruct 15 intersections along the route, set up two-way eight-lane or six-lane main roads and two-way six-lane auxiliary roads, and construct a new highway ramp linking Nanping Expressway with Yueliangwan Boulevard.

The total investment for the project is estimated to reach about 6.18 billion yuan (US$879.7 million).

It has been reported that Yueliangwan Boulevard has long been plagued with heavy traffic, as there are a lot of signalized intersections and a severe mix of passenger cars and freight trucks on the road. The traffic volume of trucks accounts for more than 50 percent of the total vehicles.

Meanwhile, the project was previously delayed due to problems involving road network connection and the relocation of ultra-high-pressure oil and gas pipelines.

The Nanshan District Government recently said that the planning of the project had been stabilized.

The Shenzhen Municipal Housing and Construction Bureau said that it had facilitated the bidding and early intervention of quality and safety supervision over the main project. The operating pressure of the LNG pipelines from Pinghu Gas Pressure Regulation Station to the Qianwan Power Plant section will be reduced to 5.7 MPa within the year.

The city’s government and the Guangzhou Railway Group have also reached a consensus on the compensation for land acquisition, and that the Longgang District Government is responsible for promoting the work related to land acquisition.

Following the approval of the pipeline routes, the Nanshan District Government has indicated that it will speed up the relocation of the LNG pipelines as well as the implementation of the road project.
