The Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the Meituan delivery platform announced that they will jointly establish a youth volunteer team composed of 10,000 delivery workers to help secure the city.

These delivery men and women will do their parts in securing the city’s safety by joining voluntary activities that are being held to promote drug prevention education, combat different forms of scams and manage traffic safety.

Liu Yunfeng, the team leader from the safety center of Meituan Dianping, said at a youth interview session held Tuesday afternoon in Futian District that the establishment of the special volunteer team is a recognition of their role as delivery workers as well as a responsibility.

Liu suggested that they will help to build a better society while continuing to provide convenience to the city’s residents.

During the session, several delivery men and women shared their stories. Cai Lixin, a female Internet celebrity in the delivery field, said that she likes her job because it brings her happiness.

A model team that includes a group of delivery workers who have received high customer satisfaction ratings and have actively participated in voluntary services was also set up with the aim of encouraging delivery workers to establish a high industry standard and provide better services.

Wang Heyong, a professor with South China University of Technology, said at the session that delivery workers are inextricably linked with the city as they provide conveniences for residents’ livelihoods.

They have become the city’s important name tag, igniting new vitality and sharing the growth of the city, according to Wang.
