5G to serve GZ-SZ-HK Express Rail Link

The 5G service will cover the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, according to Wei Ming, chairman with China Mobile Guangdong Co., at a ceremony in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

At the inauguration ceremony for the establishment of Greater Bay Area Industrial Alliance, Wei said the express rail link will be the first high-speed rail in China offering 5G service.

Leung Chun-ying, vice chairman with the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, said at the opening ceremony that 5G is not simply a technology, or a technology platform, but has great potential to stimulate different sectors, such as telecommunications, education, health care and transportation. The Greater Bay Area has great potential and can overcome difficulties through cross-industry and cross-region cooperation.

Through cooperation with Huawei Technologies, 5G services will mainly be applied in industries, and the Greater Bay Area enjoys a solid industrial base, Wei said.

“China Mobile is speeding up construction of the 5G network and the application of 5G service. Besides Huawei, the company is trying to build an industrial ecology through cooperation with China Southern Power Grid Co. Ltd., Guangzhou Automobiles Group and Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital to contribute to the construction of the Greater Bay Area smart city cluster,” Wei said.

Different industrial sectors are devoted to the digital economy for industrial growth. In the era of 5G, Li Feng, chairman of China Mobile (Hong Kong), said, the company will further push forward the application of 5G and form a 5G+ environment through 5G applications for manufacturing, information, medical care and education.
