Longhua District People’s Court, acting on behalf of Pudong New Area People’s Court in Shanghai, accepted a lawsuit of a Xiamen trading company against a Shanghai company through its online cross-region lawsuit system Monday.

It was the first cross-region lawsuit registration case in Guangdong Province since online cross-region lawsuit registration was promoted in 12 Chinese provinces and cities this March.

At 9:30 a.m., the plaintiff’s lawyer surnamed Xie arrived at the Longhua court’s Lawsuit Service Center to sue the defendant in Shanghai over trademark infringement. Traditionally, the plaintiff should go to Pudong New Area People’s Court in Shanghai for the lawsuit because the defendant is under the jurisdiction of the Pudong court. The distance is more than 1,000 kilometers and a round-trip takes at least two days.

However, with the application of the cross-region lawsuit registration system, Xie chose to file the lawsuit at the nearest court, which was Longhua District People’s Court. Through the system, the registration was completed and passed reviews by the Pudong court in 15 minutes.

“It is incredible. Cross-region lawsuit registration is very convenient and saves time and costs for the plaintiffs,” said Xie.

“Cross-region lawsuit registration is a new measure in lawsuit service reform. The plaintiffs can choose the nearest court to file the lawsuit, and through the document exchange system between the courts, the court that administers the case can review and respond to the case in a timely manner,” said Ma Ling, head of the registration court at the Longhua court.
