A garage that offers 80 parking spaces for electricity-powered buses will be built at Xiasha Bus Terminal in Futian District.

To save land use, the mechanical garage will have 11 levels and use intelligent and mechanical systems for parking, according to a release by Tianda Air Port Equipment Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of China International Marine Containers Group Co. Ltd.

Tianda has set up a consortium for this project.

The garage project covers 3,657 square meters and is located southwest of the intersection of Furong Road and Binhai Boulevard. It is one of the two mechanical parking lots to the west of the bus terminal. Each is about 45.9 meters in height and occupies 690 square meters of land. Drivers can charge their buses while parking or using the large charging poles.

The project is expected to be ready for use by the end of 2020. As the parking of the buses is mechanically controlled, it takes only 60 seconds for drivers to get their buses.

From the top to the ground, the bus can be moved at 1.5 meters per second, which saves drivers from having to park and pick up the buses.

Shenzhen is one of the 12 cities listed by the Ministry of Transport in November 2010 as a pilot city of public transport.

Through the city’s efforts in recent years, all of the public buses — 16,359 in total — have been electricity-powered since the end of 2017. Shenzhen has the largest electric bus fleet in the world.

Xiasha Bus Terminal is one of the three terminals that will build mechanical parking garages for buses. The other two terminals include Nanshan CBD Bus Terminal and Nanshan Hi-Tech Industrial Park Bus Terminal.

To save land and resolve parking difficulties, the city is now offering subsidies to encourage private investment in the construction of multi-level, mechanical parking facilities. The city won’t charge land users additional fees if they build such multi-level parking facilities that do not cover more than the approved construction space.

With the increasing number of vehicles, the city is facing worsening parking difficulties, especially in some old housing estates. The transport commission will expedite the construction of 20 mechanical parking facilities, add 10,500 roadside parking spaces and complete four parking terminals for buses before the end of the year.
