The construction of 8,000 5G base stations will be completed by August next year in Bao’an District to ensure the entire district receives stable 5G coverage.

By end-2019, 3,684 5G base stations will be completed, according to a district meeting on the construction of the 5G network.

Before end of the year, 5G will cover major areas such as Shenzhen International Airport, the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center and Metro lines.

At the meeting, Guo Ziping, head of the district government, urged relevant departments, enterprises and institutions to take opportunities to speed up 5G infrastructure construction, enhance the application of 5G scenarios, make plans for the high-quality development of 5G technology and develop a platform that underpins Bao’an’s next round of development.

The technology will be first implemented in 10 administrative scenarios: government, transport, policing, urban administration, water resource management, health care, education, culture and tourism, emergency and exhibitions. It has already been implemented in policing, surgery and community management.

The district also plans to build 5G industrial parks by introducing enterprises involving 5G network equipment, components, intelligent terminal applications and services. It will also set up 5G technology alliances and innovative labs to attract private investment.

Some 5G-based intelligent manufacturing, telecasting, monitoring, drone patrolling, and automated driving projects will be piloted in the Greater Airport Area, Shenzhen airport and Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center.
