Metro Line 12, which runs from south to north connecting Nanshan and Bao’an districts, will be put into operation in 2022, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.

At present, the tunnel boring machine has officially started tunneling work for Huaide Station on Metro Line 12. Upon completion, the Metro line will become the city’s only rail transit line connecting Nanshan with Fuyong, the greater airport area and the exhibition and convention center area of Bao’an District.

Metro Line 12 extends about 40.56 kilometers with a total of 33 stations, including 18 interchange stations. It starts at Zuopaotai East Station in Nanshan and ends at Waterlands Resort East Station in Bao’an, passing through Nanshan CBD, Bao’an CBD, Fuyong Subdistrict, the greater airport area and the exhibition and convention center area.

The Metro line will adopt driverless technology, and the train can automatically enter and exit, and stop and clean itself at the depot. After opening, it will provide transfers with Metro lines 1, 2, 5 and 11, which will effectively ease traffic congestion in Nanshan CBD and Bao'an CBD.

Metro Line 8 is expected to open for initial operation next year. The first train designated for the first phase of Metro Line 8 has arrived in Shenzhen, marking the start of tests.

The first phase of Metro Line 8 starts at Liantang Station, connecting with the third phase of Metro Line 2, and ends at Yantian Road Station, reaching about 12.34 kilometers.

The Metro line has six underground stations, namely Wutong Mountain South Station, Shatoujiao Station, Haishan Station, Yantian Port West Station, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School Station and Yantian Road Station.

The new train is designed to operate at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour and has the capacity to carry a maximum of 2,502 passengers.

The western extension of Line 9 is scheduled to open Dec. 8, according to the Daily, citing sources from the city’s rail transport authority.

The opening of the line will enable residents to travel by subway from Qianhai to Wenjin of Luohu District in only about one hour.

The 10.8-kilometer extension starts at Hongshuwan South Station and ends at Qianwan Station. It has 10 stations, including five transfer stations with lines 5, 12, 15, 13 and 11.
