Bao'an District will secure the steady improvement of its protection of water quality and carry out its water pollution control tasks to the letter, Yao Ren, Party chief of the district, emphasized at a recent work conference, the Bao’an Daily reported.

The conference focused on passing on the instructions given by the country’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment and hearing reports on the progress in cleaning the Maozhou River and the water treatment plan for the upcoming year.

Zhang Bo, director of the ministry’s Department of Water Environment Treatment, led a team to investigate the treatment of the Maozhou River on Nov. 27. Zhang fully affirmed Bao’an’s efforts in tackling water pollution and said that remarkable results had been achieved in the treatment of the Bao’an section of the Maozhou River.

Zhang requested that Bao’an further promote water treatment projects in line with high standards and high quality, build ecological restoration systems according to local conditions.

At present, Bao’an District has achieved initial results in water pollution control. Water quality monitoring data showed that 61 black and odorous water bodies in the district had been basically eliminated.

Next, Bao’an will continue to renovate old pipe networks, carry out engineering measures, such as ecological restoration and water replenishment, and combine with management measures like drainage management and pollution control to ensure that water quality will reach the standard during the rainy season in 2020.

Yao pointed out that great achievements have been made in water pollution control in the Maozhou River. He stressed that all parties should be modest and prudent, work hard to accomplish all the water treatment objectives and carefully sort out and eliminate the possible risks in the process.

In the next stage, Bao’an will focus on solving the problem of nonpoint source pollution. The district also plans to hold an achievement review meeting and a large-scale picture exhibition on water pollution control to demonstrate its experience and achievements.
