Experts discuss digital bay area construction at forum

Well-known experts and scholars from around the world had a heated discussion on the current cutting-edge development trends, core technologies and innovative applications of the digital economy at the 2019 Qianhai World Digital Forum held in Qianhai, Shenzhen, on Dec. 6, providing new thoughts and models for digital bay area construction.

Liu Wenqiang, vice president of China Center for Information Industry Development (CCID), believes that the economic aggregate, innovation capability, and the finance and manufacturing sectors of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area are strong and advantageous. 

“In the era of digital economy, we should take advantage of new technological innovations such as big data, artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing and financial technology when constructing the digital bay area, which is expected to become a new engine for converting old driving forces and reshaping core competitiveness,” Liu said.

Chen Wei, general manager of Qianhai INNO-TECH Investment Holdings Co., Ltd., said that based on the existing resource endowment and policy advantages of Qianhai, the company has confirmed the strategic planning of taking artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, IoT and blockchain as the core of its future development, while promoting the application of these technologies in the four major industries of smart city, life and health, fintech and cultural creativity.

“The company is committed to building the digital foundation for Qianhai Cloud Platform, which is expected to serve as the key infrastructure for smart city construction and the scientific research and operation of sci-tech enterprises. The Qianhai Cloud Platform will connect with major well-known companies in the area and attract high-quality digital resources to settle in order to design and provide comprehensive smart applications for smart city construction and help with the fast growth of sci-tech enterprises. We will also utilize new technologies to empower the traditional financial industry and traditional trade, promote their upgrading and development, and realize the integrated industrial development of technology, finance and free trade in Qianhai,” said Chen.

“Additionally, the company will build major digital infrastructures, such as a Network Security Center, Offshore Data Center and Super Computing Center, making them an advanced digital facility complex in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area that is able to meet the digital industry, industrial digitalization and digital governance requirements of Qianhai,” Chen added.

Yang Xueshan, a professor at Peking University and former vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Peng Bo, chair professor at Peking University and former full-time deputy director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, also shared their thoughts with the experts, scholars and the audience at the event.
