High-tech startup SmartMore in Qianhai engages in the application of new-generation AI (artificial intelligence) technology in the smart manufacturing and ultra high-definition video industries.

The startup, set up in 2019 by Jiaya Jia, an expert in computer vision, has a team of AI specialists and engineers who have more than 20 years of experience working at Internet giants such as Google and Tencent after graduating from top-notch universities.

Members of the team own hundreds of patents at home and abroad. They have also won multiple international awards such as the 2018 AutoNUE Challenge championship and the 2019 Baidu Apollo 3D Object Detection Contest championship.

SmartMore CEO Xiaoyong Shen said the geographical location of Qianhai in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has been the main reason he and Jia chose to base their high-tech firm here. “The business environment and practice in Qianhai are in line with the international standards, which are conducive for SmartMore to go global,” said Shen.

He attributed the fast growth of SmartMore to Qianhai’s favorable policies on a number of issues such as talent housing and preferential personal income tax, among others. He said the policies have been important in helping maintain talented staff in SmartMore.

“This year, AI has been listed as one of the seven major areas of the new high-tech infrastructure construction to upgrade Qianhai’s industrial structure and boost economic growth. We hope to contribute to the new infrastructure construction in Qianhai and Shenzhen,” Shen said.

The company has received investment from institutions such as IDG Capital, ZhenFund and Lenovo Capital & Incubator Group.
