Students in Shenzhen and other mainland cities who have been admitted to universities in Hong Kong can apply for a D-type visa to enter Hong Kong after they receive the Visa Label (known as student visa) issued by Hong Kong Immigration Department as the new term approaches.

The whole process generally takes three to five workdays, according to relevant rules.

Students need to have the Visa Label, which is valid for 12 months and normally sent by the universities, to apply for a D-type visa at a local public security bureau.

Students also have to enter Hong Kong within three months from the issue date of the Visa Label.

D-type visas are for students to pass the mainland customs while the Visa Label is for students to enter Hong Kong.
