Innovation should remain the main engine to drive the future development of Qianhai, said an expert of a State Council think tank at a symposium in Qianhai on Sunday, following a two-day tour of the free trade area.

Long Guoqiang, vice director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, said institutional innovation was behind the staggering achievements Qianhai has made over the past 10 years.

He also said that future growth should continue to be driven by innovation while at the same time strengthening Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation.

Long was among the 20-strong group of experts from 19 State-level think tanks, such as the Development Research Think Tank of China and the National Institute of Social Development, who visited Qianhai over the weekend.

Through their visits of WeBank, the country’s first Internet-only private bank, the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub, the Qianhai Party Service Center and the Taizi Bay Cruise Homeport, they learned of the achievements Qianhai has made in a number of fields including financial innovation, construction of a rule-of-law environment and Party construction at the grass-roots level.

The experts gathered Sunday at the symposium to offer advice and suggestions on various issues regarding the future growth of Qianhai.

Tian Fu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and director of the Authority of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Qianhai and Shekou Area, told the symposium that the advice offered by the experts was helpful in guiding Qianhai to make scientific decisions in its pursuit of quality economic development during the construction of the pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
