Shenzhen University (SZU), Tencent Institute of Games and the Common R&D Operation System under Tencent’s Interactive Entertainment Group jointly inaugurated an internship base at Kexing Science and Technology Park in Nanshan District on Saturday.

The internship base, one of the projects under the university-corporation cooperation program of SZU, will enable students of SZU to access new tech and products by Tencent in various business fields. At the same time, the students will be able to invigorate a new vitality of Tencent games businesses with their strong professional capability and good quality.

“Shenzhen University will select good quality students to develop research and operation programs in partnership with Tencent Institute of Games and maximize the benefits to both sides through practical cooperation and full effort participation,” Xu Chen, vice president of SZU, said at the inauguration ceremony.

The internship base is mainly led by the School of Foreign Languages of SZU and supported by other schools within the university.

With the development of computer science and AI technologies, SZU and Tencent has established University-Enterprise Coordination and Industry-Education Integration Cooperation Strategy in recent years. The internship base is an extension of the cooperation.

“The two sides will cooperate in document translation, setting up data banks of different languages, overseas exhibitions, businesses and new media technologies in the coming years,” said Zhang Xiaohong, dean of the School of Foreign Languages of SZU.

The establishment of the internship base serves the purposes of the university to explore the three-in-one talent cultivation mechanism that combines innovation, multifunctionality and applicational qualities, and helps the university to better serve society and match with enterprises, according to Zhang.

The establishment of the internship base serves the Go Global Strategy of Tencent Institute of Games. To compete in an international market, Tencent needs talented people and professionals of different languages. The internship base will be a platform for SZU and Tencent to explore the cultivation of a new-type of talented people and to cooperate in Tencent’s overseas-related businesses, according to Xia Lin, head of Tencent Institute of Games.

In talent cultivation and industrial upgrading in the game industry, Tencent Institute of Games has been a promoter. It has jointly built Interactive Media Design and Technology Center with Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, and Intelligent Graphics Innovative Technology Laboratory with Zhejiang University.
