Six 5G application projects from Shenzhen stood out from 4,289 entries in a national competition hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.

The projects won six awards, including two first prizes, one second prize and three excellence awards.

The competition aimed to collect innovative 5G-related application projects in the areas of CloudXR, industrial Internet, smart life, health care, smart finance, smart commerce, smart communication, smart transportation and other key fields.

After seven regional competitions and 10 special competitions, a total of 360 projects entered the second round of the national competition.

Thirty entries were selected to compete in the national finals, which selected the winning projects based on four dimensions — functionality, practicability, commercialization and social benefits — and seven secondary indicators.

According to the city’s industry and information technology bureau, all of the winning projects from Shenzhen in the competition fall into the 5G application demonstration fields supported by the municipal government.

In the competition, Shenzhen has made a splash and showed the great potential of 5G applications in such areas as transportation, police affairs, urban management, power supply, water affairs, health care, education, security and seaport management.

It is noteworthy that the 5G smart port project of China Merchants Port, which won the first prize in the competition, is a smart port benchmark project jointly constructed by China Mobile and China Merchants Port Holdings Co. Ltd. based on 5G smart port innovation laboratory.
