The construction of the Qianhai section of Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Rail has been in full swing in the Qianhai area since it was initiated in June this year.

The 15-kilometer section from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport to Qianhai is scheduled to be completed in 2024. It includes three stations: Xixiang, Bao’an and Qianhai.

The airport-Qianhai section of the rail is the first of five intercity rail projects to be funded by Shenzhen. Qianhai Station is a key and complicated project, and has four underground floors.

Since the construction started, more than 400 workers have been at the Qianhai Station construction site. In the future, the rail will be extended from Qianhai to Huanggang Checkpoint.

The city will also start construction on Shenzhen-Shenshan Intercity Rail, Qianhai-Pingdi section of Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Rail, the Dapeng spur line of Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Rail and Shenzhen-Daya Bay Intercity Rail within the year.

The operating section of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen Intercity Rail — the section between Guangzhou’s Xintang and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport via Dongguan — began service in December last year, offering a quick link for passengers between the three cities. The 74-kilometer section has 15 stations, 10 of which are above ground.

On Guangzhou’s side, the rail will be extended to Baiyun International Airport through a link with Xintang Station. It will be connected with other Pearl River Delta cities through links with the Foshan-Dongguan rail, Dongguan-Huizhou rail and Guangzhou-Foshan rail.
